Mission Statement

Our mission is to foster a business ethic in Vermont that recognizes the opportunity and responsibility of the business community to set a high standard for protecting the natural, human, and economic environments of our citizens. Our vision is a dynamic society in which employees, employers, customers, suppliers, the communities in which they live, and future generations all prosper as a business succeeds.

Description

VBSR is a statewide, nonprofit business association with a mission to foster a business ethic in Vermont that recognizes the opportunity and responsibility of the business community to set a high standard for protecting the natural, human, and economic environments of our citizens.

We advance VBSR’s mission through:

Economic Development

Using our resources, we help foster sustainable economic prosperity and transformation on a statewide basis, both directly and cooperatively with aligned organizations.

Education

We provide concrete resources and information to help improve our members’ triple-bottom-line business practices.  Empowering our members to solve environmental, social and economic problems, we share such successes with legislative bodies, news media, and the general public.

Public Influence

We initiate tangible change in public policy that combats exploitation and promotes sustainability. We work to capture the inherent power of business to represent socially responsible ideals to legislative bodies, news media, and the general public.

Networking

We strengthen connections among the community of businesspeople focusing on socially responsible businesses and facilitate peer-to-peer sharing of triple bottom line practices and policies to encourage more leading edge practices that improve our economy, environment and communities.

Who Belongs

VBSR has a diverse business membership that represents all sectors and geographic regions of Vermont.

Program Details

Local First Vermont: Local First Vermont is a program of Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility. Our mission is to preserve and enhance the economic, human, and natural vitality of Vermont communities by promoting the importance of purchasing from locally owned independent businesses.
Vermont Intern Program: We post and promote positions and provide one-on-one assistance with creating internships and managing interns to success – a FREE service available to all Vermont employers. Applicants receive support with the application process and access to networking and professional development activities. Interns receive a FREE Individual Membership to VBSR.
Changemakers Table: The Vermont Changemakers Table is a professional network for mission-driven young Vermonters committed to the future of Vermont and positive change. A collaboration between Vermont Businesses for Social Responsibility (VBSR) and the High Meadows Fund, the group will meet quarterly for dinner, conversation and inspiration with Vermont thought leaders. Members of the cohort are encouraged to connect informally outside of the four organized dinners and take advantage of opportunities to connect with socially responsible businesses at VBSR events. A complimentary VBSR membership will be extended to individuals who are not currently employed by VBSR members.
Measure What Matters: VBSR's Measure What Matters workshop series is modeled after the B-Corp Impact Assessment to help members to better support their communities, reduce the impact of their operations on the environment and to create the best workplace for their employees. This is your opportunity to learn from some of the best companies in New England, see how you measure up against industry leaders, and find new ways to improve your business operations. Workshop attendees will leave with ready to use tools for change and an expanded network of professionals who believe in business as a power for good!
