Social Impact & Sustainability Initiative at the University of Florida

Mission Statement

The Social Impact & Sustainability Initiative at UF’s Entrepreneurship & Innovation Center in the Warrington College of Business creates opportunities for students to learn how to become changemakers, challenging them to develop skills and strategies of successful business leaders who innovatively and sustainably solve social, environmental, and economic problems. We empower students to become social entrepreneurs who leverage the power of business to positively impact our local community and the world.

Today the Social Impact & Sustainability Initiative is fulfilling its mission on which we embarked in 2005. We offer students opportunities to get involved in social entrepreneurship through:
- Courses (i.e. Intro to Social Entrepreneurship; Innovation & Sustainability: Business for Good; UF Business for Good Lab: Sustainable Business Consulting)
- Experiential Learning Opportunities ( i.e. consulting team projects, venture plan competitions, internships)
- Extracurricular Activities (i.e. site visits, speakers series, guest panels, film series, and workshops)

Program Details

As of Spring 2020—15 years following the launch of the SIS Initiative in 2005—over 1,680 students in 38 Social Entrepreneurship-related courses (24 graduate and 14 undergraduate) have spent over 43,900 hours helping more than 100 social ventures (non-profit organizations & for-profit businesses) in Florida be more innovative and sustainable. A number of our students have gone on to launch their own ventures or to work for some of the biggest players in the field.
