Save the Bay

Mission Statement

We protect and restore San Francisco Bay for people and wildlife, uniting the Bay Area to create a clean and healthy Bay. As climate change and pollution threaten the Bay, we lead initiatives to make our region sustainable for future generations.

Since 1961, Save The Bay’s leadership team has taken inspiration from our three courageous founders, Sylvia McLaughlin, Kay Kerr and Esther Gulick. Their bravery and determination has served as our guide in expanding the scope of Save The Bay’s programming, from preventing Bay fill to restoring wetlands, reducing pollution, and educating future generations of Bay stewards.

Program Details

Year after year, we push ourselves to confront major challenges—such as climate change and sea level rise—in collaborative and groundbreaking ways. This year, with support from generous donors and our caring community, we will:
  • Provide the tools and resources necessary for our Restoration team to engage over 6,000 volunteers in critical wetland restoration work to protect communities against flooding and re-build essential wildlife habitat.
  • Empower our Policy team to advance state and local legislation that reduces pollution and promotes sustainable development in the face of climate change.
  • Ensure our Education team can continue to provide FREE hands-on science and nature education programs to over 2,500 students annually.
