The Campus Advisory program is the core of PLAN’s work. Our campus coordinator team informs students about the waste crisis and equip them with the necessary skills to implement waste solutions in their campus communities through 1:1 advising calls, online trainings and webinars, and written resources such as best practice guides, manuals, zines, etc.
The Students for Zero Waste Conference is an annual educational event that brings 600+ of the most sustainability-focused students in the country together to talk about solving the waste crisis. This is an event that moves well beyond traditional recycling solutions to focus on the circular economy and environmental justice.
Beyond Waste Summits are annual regional summits co-hosted at four campuses across the United States. These summits bring together student leaders to address waste on their campuses and its impacts to the broader community, to collaborate on waste solutions for their regional communities, and to receive training in leadership and organizing skills necessary to accomplish this.
The Atlas Consulting Program involves an assessment framework for campus-wide zero waste in universities and colleges utilizing our extensive Campus Programs Checklist to assess infrastructure, policies, and communication that supports the reduction of waste on campus. A report with detailed findings, recommendations, and a baseline Zero Waste Score is provided to the campus. After a campus reviews their report, the Atlas team guides the campus in establishing a Zero Waste Strategic Plan and accompanying task force through a series of strategic visioning sessions. The result is a clear roadmap to Zero Waste.
The Break Free From Plastic Campus Pledge works in collaboration with the International organization Break Free from Plastic. The pledge guides colleges and universities towards the long-term elimination of single-use disposable plastics on campus, with a specific focus on campus procurement.
