Mission Statement

The Pacific Beach Coalition is dedicated to preserving the ocean, coastal habitat and wildlife, and ending litter, through advocacy, education, community building, and citizen action.

Description

We are a volunteer-driven community of Earth Heroes inspired by kindred spirit and collective passion for protecting and preserving our ocean, beaches, creeks, wildlife and native habitat. Since 1997, we have been growing as a powerful force for positive change leading sustainable environmental stewardship among all ages through advocacy, education, community building and citizen action in the Bay Area. In 2018 we engaged 14,166 volunteers to remove over 9 tons of trash and recycling from our coastline. We removed over 25 tons of weeds, planted over 1500 native plants, and worked to restore 1 mile of the CA Coastal Trail. Our volunteers picked up over 133,000 cigarette filters which were sent to Terracycle to be recycled into usuable products. Our education team brought school assemblies to 18 schools teaching 7125 students and teachers about sea stars and marine debris.
Throughout the year, we host field and education programs connecting thousands to care for our environment. We bring environmental assemblies to schools, restore habitat, and engage volunteers to clean beaches, streets, parks, parking lots and communities.
We provide experiential hands on experience about marine debris and healthy habitats to people of all ages and host corporate team building projects to inspire all to protect our coastal environment and planet at home, work, and at play.

Get Involved in Hands-on Learning
Whether on the beach, beside a creek, in school yards or along streets and sidewalks, our field and education programs offer first-hand experiences that teach the importance and value of protecting and preserving our ocean, beaches, water quality, wildlife and native habitat.
Our Field Programs
From the shore to the bluffs and all along our magnificent coast, our field programs exemplify stewardship through our signature activities that include beach, creek and community cleanups, as well as native habitat restoration events. Throughout the year, thousands of Earth Heroes heed the “call to action” to join us in preserving our coastal ecosystem.
Our Education Programs
From toddlers to seniors to students and executives, our education programs deliver inspiration to youth, schools and the general public. Our annual calendar features meaningful opportunities to learn from film nights, community workshops, education initiatives, outreach, policy and advocacy, and school assemblies. We also have one of the most unique environmental education events held in the Bay Area, our annual Earth Day of Action & EcoFest around Earth Day April 22nd.
