Keep The North Shore Country

Website

Mission Statement

To preserve, protect and enhance the heritage and rural character of the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, in partnership with communities from Kaena Point to Kahaluu.

Description

Keep the North Shore Country won the landmark 2010 Hawaii Supreme Court case regarding an outdated EIS for the proposed Turtle Bay Resort expansion. These efforts led to land conservation easements over more than 1000 acres of coastal and agricultural lands.
In 2020, we have a case pending before the Hawaii Supreme Court involving the sufficiency of a plan by a new wind developer to protect the endangered Hawaiian hoary bat, a challenge against illegal placement of the turbines, and a contested case against another wind project that exceeded it allowed take of the hoary bat in less than seven years.
We support planning projects for additional hiking and biking trails in our area, and efforts to increase local food production, and protection of rural community growth boundaries.
