Mission Statement

GirlVentures inspires girls to lead through outdoor adventure, inner discovery, and collective action.

As we facilitate the development of next generation leadership, we envision a world where girls and women lead inclusive, resilient communities, and where nature is accessible to everyone and conserved for future generations. Using the outdoors as a catalyst for leadership development and environmental stewardship, GirlVentures builds confidence, empathy, and life skills, enabling transformative change that lasts a lifetime.
Serving girls and gender non-conforming youth ages 10-18 from across the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond, GirlVentures recruits participants from diverse communities. GirlVentures’ core strategies include catalyzing girls’ leadership through outdoor education, advancing inclusive representation in the outdoor and environmental industries, developing career pipelines for our graduates, and strengthening transformative action to advance social and environmental justice.

Program Details

GirlVentures works to realize its mission by catalyzing girls’ leadership through outdoor adventure, advancing inclusive representation and developing career pipelines in the outdoor and environmental industries, and strengthening transformative action to support inclusive movements for social and environmental justice.
As the only nonprofit of its kind, GirlVentures combines outdoor adventure with social emotional learning for adolescent girls, at a critical time in their lives. Starting at age 11, our Leadership Progression Model builds girls’ confidence, skills, and leadership as they backpack, hike, kayak and rock climb in the Northern California wilderness. They learn from experiential educators and mentors, while building life skills that empower them to reach their full potential.
Our programs include 1- to 2-week summer adventure trips, spring break affinity courses for youth of color and queer identified youth, and an after-school rock climbing programs in Oakland, San Francisco, and El Cerrito/Richmond. Our programs focus on developing youth social emotional skills, deepening connections to the earth, and catalyzing youth to become active and engaged change-agents.
