The Friends of Maryland State Parks Foundation (FOMSP) is a statewide non-profit, independent, non-partisan, all-volunteer 501 (c) 3 organization founded in 1997.
Our Foundation’s purpose is to engage citizens to do our part to promote programs that enhance exposure to and enjoyment of Maryland’s State Parks.
Health & Wellness for children & families: promote health & wellness.
Environmental Education & Appreciation: promote learning about the natural world, our connections w/ it, and encouraging environmental “stewardship”.
Cultural and Historical Preservation & Restoration: preserve Maryland's cultural resources.
Natural Resource Conservation conserve Maryland’s natural resources.
Economic Development that support local economies: throughout Maryland through programs in the above areas.

Mission Statement

Raise the awareness and appreciation of the “quality of life” benefits of Maryland state parks. We are dedicated to preserve, protect, enhance and advocate for our state parks for current and future generations by developing a constituency of citizens and elected officials who believe in the advocacy of state parks.

Program Details

The following programs are examples of those we have recently completed:
1) 12 kayaks at the Southern Maryland Recreational Complex for outdoor education programs for Conservation Job Corps participants and environmental education for students.
2) We provided the materials to build a Battlefield fence for the War of 1812 commemoration. This program benefits historic & cultural preservation & youth environmental education programs.
3) Community Outreach Advocacy & Partnerships with State Park Friends Groups: Sponsored Park Quest to encourage families into parks for natural resource and evironmental stewardship exposure.
