Mission Statement

The Deschutes Land Trust's mission is to work cooperatively with landowners to conserve land for wildlife, scenic views, and local communities.

Description

Since 1995, the nationally-accredited Deschutes Land Trust has been celebrating and protecting Central Oregon's beauty and quality of life. We envision healthy lands that support diverse populations of native plants and wildlife. We work to create communities that are closely engaged with the land, that value the natural world, treat it with respect, and are invested in its future. We want to see a region that, even as it grows, retains its natural attributes forever.

Program Details

The Deschutes Land Trust is Central Oregon's only local land trust. We protect and steward the land through our 9 Community Preserves and a number of conservation easements. Some of our current projects include monarch conservation, the reintroduction of salmon and steelhead, and keeping working farms, ranches, and forests intact while protecting wildlife habitat.
We offer more than 150 free, naturalist-led Walks + Hikes each year on our protected lands and a free speaker series in the winter. In addition, we have volunteer opportunities that help our community get involved in land conservation, from pulling weeds to helping with mailings to doing bird surveys.
