Mission Statement

CURE's mission is to protect and restore resilient rural landscapes by harnessing the power of citizens who care about them.
We do this because we believe that robust human communities can only be sustained by healthy ecosystems, and robust natural environments can only be regained through vigorous stewardship.
Our work takes many forms, but always involves three core practices:
  • Awakening people's bond with the natural world around them.
  • Inclusively, strategically and dialectically exploring issues and actions.
  • Systematically building communities of change at critical intersections of ecological and social well-being.

CURE (Clean Up the River Environment) is a rural, nonprofit organization made up of people who care about the well-being of their neighbors, the health of the water and land, and the legacy we leave for future generations.
Founded in 1992, CURE is an organization long rooted in the movement for rural social justice. Widely know as a community-based, grassroots leader, CURE shares what it knows and draws on the expertise of others through regional and national-wide network collaborations.
CURE works in the areas of climate, energy, water, rural democracy, and connecting people with nature with a focus on civic engagement flwoing through all projects.
CURE is located in downtown Montevideo, Minnesota in the heart of the Upper Minnesota River Valley.
