Comal Trails Alliance

Mission Statement

Creating trails to connect communities and provide opportunities for health, education and enjoyment of the natural beauty of Comal County.

The Comal Trails Alliance was formed in 2013 by a group of concerned citizens wanting to encourage alternative forms of transportations in a region that is recognized as one of the fastest growing in the United States. The infrastructure is extremely auto-centric and 94% of the land is in private property. There is little access to nature trails or areas. There is also a need for bike lanes, sidewalks, and all varieties of trails.

Program Details

We support our local New Braunfels Parks Department by providing maintenance of existing trails. We've participated in and raised funds and sponsored sustainable trail building workshops to create new trail mileage in existing parks areas and in partnership with private land owners allowing public access, like the Canyon Lake Chamber of Commerce. Our organization has created, published and distributed the first trail map for the County and host public meetings to engage the community in the importance of trails and active transportation networks in a region that does not have a history of investing in these types of projects.
