Cheakamus Foundation for Environmental Learning

Mission Statement

Our Mission: To create a hub of authentic, meaningful experiences that connect people to the natural world, and inspire sustainable values and behaviours.

Cheakamus Centre is located in the traditional territories of the Ch'iyáḵmesh people of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Nation in Paradise Valley, north of Squamish, BC. The Centre is situated on a 165 ha coastal rainforest ecological reserve protected in perpetuity under a conservation covenant, and houses the only teaching longhouse in the area.
Established in 1969, over 750,000+ people from throughout the Sea to Sky Corridor, Lower Mainland, and other parts of British Columbia have participated in environmental and indigenous cultural education programs, events, meetings and retreats to gain a better understanding of the natural world and our important role within it.
As a result, participants gain a deeper awareness and understanding of the environment and actively seek opportunities to reduce their impact on the natural world – locally and globally,
