The California Academy of Sciences is a renowned scientific and educational institution dedicated to exploring, explaining and sustaining life on Earth. Based in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, it is home to a world-class aquarium, planetarium, and natural history museum, as well as innovative programs in scientific research and education—all under one living roof.

Description

For more than 165 years, the California Academy of Sciences has explored the mysteries of the natural world and shared fascinating discoveries with millions of visitors. The Academy is more than a showcase of museum exhibits. Our educational programs -- from student laboratories to science lectures --are a core focus, both on the public floor and behind the scenes. Academy scientists explore the world's biodiversity hotspots through new lenses to promote conservation policies and practices. Through these programs and others, the Academy strives to be at the forefront of innovative science learning and discovery.
The Academy conducts groundbreaking research while also serving as a locus of informal science education and fostering a sense of environmental stewardship and scientific literacy among our visitors. The Academy goes beyond the role of the classical museum, with interactive educational programs that enrich engaging exhibit content, inspire curiosity, and encourage visitors to explore the wonders of the natural world. Through our exhibits and educational programs, the Academy inspires 1.3 million visitors annually, and millions more through our online resources, to discover the world and become better stewards of the Earth.
