Big City Mountaineers

Mission Statement

Big City Mountaineers instills critical life skills in under-resourced youth through transformative wilderness mentoring experiences.

For 30 years, Big City Mountaineers (BCM) has provided youth without access to wilderness experiences with the gear, guides, transportation, food, and permits necessary for immersive nature experiences. Operating programs out of Denver, Portland, Seattle, San Fransisco, Minneapolis, and Boston - with one heritage program out of Miami - BCM provides youth ages 8-12 with overnight camp experiences and youth 13-18 with week-long wilderness mentoring expeditions. Each of these programs has a curriculum tailored to the needs of the age group that pushes youth outside of their physical and locational comfort zones, providing space for them to exercise their resilience, adaptability, and leadership skills.
