Maiden Hawaii Naturals - Kuleana® sunscreen

Website

Description

Kuleana® is a clean and simple skincare system featuring natural beauty oils and facial cleansers made from locally grown ingredients – such as macadamia, kukui, coconut, avocado and green coffee – and handcrafted in Hawaii. The beauty oils and products are produced, blended and bottled at the company's production facility on Hawaii Island. The products are GMO-free, vegan, cruelty-free, biodegradable and contain no synthetic ingredients, fragrances, colors or additives. Kuleana Sunscreen is a reef-friendly sunscreen lotion with broad-spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30 protection. Made with minerals and plant-based oils – including the company’s Maui sunflower oil and Hawaiian macadamia nut oil – blended with other natural ingredients, this gentle sunscreen contains no ecologically harmful chemicals like oxybenzone or octinoxate (recently Hawaii Gov. David Ige signed the first bill in the country that prohibits the sale or distribution of sunscreens containing oxybenzone or octinoxate). Kuleana is a product of Maiden Hawaii Naturals, LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hawaii’s pioneering renewable energy company, Pacific Biodiesel Technologies. In 2015, Pacific Biodiesel began collecting excess macadamia nuts from local processors on Hawaii Island. The plan was to press the nuts – which would have otherwise been discarded as food waste – into oil used to produce the company’s renewable fuel. As the team learned more about macadamia nut oil, they realized its many healthful benefits for hair and skin and began pressing the nuts into a luxurious beauty oil. That’s when Maiden Hawaii Naturals was born. Since that time, the company has expanded its production of pure plant-based oils for cosmetic use to include not only Hawaiian-grown Macadamia but Kukui, Coconut, Avocado, Green Coffee and, most recently, Sunflower oil made from acres of blooming sunflowers farmed by the company in Maui’s central valley.
